Strengthen CAD Data Security for Modern Manufacturing.

Internal geometries removed to protect IP & streamline data transfer with 3DViewStation

Comprehensive data protection for sensitive 3D data standard in KISTERS 3DViewStation

With increasingly digital and interconnected manufacturing, protecting sensitive intellectual property is more critical than ever. Engineering teams must be able to share information across networks, while safeguarding commercial designs and proprietary knowledge from unauthorized access or reverse engineering.

KISTERS 3DViewStation delivers intelligent security features to meet these demands. Combining server‑side rendering, granular access controls, and trust IP protection secure CAD data throughout the product lifecycle.

Secure Online Visualization

3DViewStation WebViewer provides a decisive security advantage by rendering all 3D content exclusively on the server. It streams only images and videos. No 3D geometries are transferred to the user’s device. So 3D content cannot be retrieved from the graphics card. In contrast, most other tools expose CAD geometry by rendering it in the local browser or storing it locally.

3DViewStation WebViewer eliminates the risk of unauthorized downloads, cache extraction, or graphics‑card scraping.

  • When deployed within a PLM or ERP environment, the leading system controls user permissions. Even metadata can be used to define granular editing capabilities. The web interface can also be tailored, so users may access only the functions appropriate for their role.

For external collaboration — such as quoting, supplier review, or service support — partners receive high-resolution visual access as needed.

Advanced IP Protection

When data transfer is required, 3DViewStation provides intellectual property protection (IPP). When IPP is used in conjunction with KISTERS Automated Server (KAS), organizations can automate the removal of internal geometries, apply geometric distortion, simplify details, or selectively eliminate sensitive features. The result: your partners receive functional, task‑appropriate 3D datasets without costly exposure of information unnecessary to their role.

A bonus is the time-savings because this method reduces file size. In turn, this streamlines data transfer.

Best Practices for Secure Collaboration

Manufacturers handling sensitive data should rely on platforms that integrate encryption, controlled  access, and traceability. In addition, the choice of file format(s) can be a factor. STEP enables the storage of exact geometric data (BREP). Generating BREP files is very time-consuming discouraging the reverse-engineering of production-ready data from this format.

Other formats for consideration are JT or STEP-tesselated files. They are examples of triangulated data, and they offer more options for controlling data exchange.

While no solution offers absolute protection, KISTERS 3DViewStation significantly reduces risk of CAD data misuse. At the same time, the software enables manufacturers work with suppliers and partners both efficiently and securely. As your digital manufacturing expands, 3DViewStation can scale robust safeguards to protect your intellectual property across your networks.
