Graphics added to handle most complex variants and configurations

September 4, 2018

Manufacturing sector discovers KISTERS CAD viewer 3DViewStation adds significant value to digital twin technology, as variant and configuration management requires appropriate graphics to visualize results of the process.

The leading system that handles the complex assemblies (consisting of hundreds of thousands of parts) might be a PLM system but, it’s more likely to be a product configurator or an after-sales application.

In addition to hundreds of thousands of components, the digital twin will change over a lifetime. The ability to visualize such complex assemblies dynamically as they respond in real time to configuration changes is essential.

KISTERS 3DViewStation provides the necessary functionality to complete these tasks in the Windows desktop, any HTML5 browser and even in virtual reality.

Unlike simple designs, complex technical products have more variants and configuration possibilities. PLM systems, product configurators and after-sales applications have sets of rules and constraints to accommodate the various options; some programs are equipped with graphics engines, others are not. Due to its incredible speed, 3DViewStation is found (as the graphic engine), in many of them.

KISTERS 3DViewStation is often selected by several automotive and industrial vendors as the graphics engine for their product configurators,” said Kelly Baumann, KISTERS North America Business Development Manager. “Every day our customers configure complete and fully detailed trucks or industrial HVAC systems, consisting of more than 100,000 parts, and render them realistically. They enjoy how fast they can see their configuration with all of their changes.”

“Developers are pleasantly surprised when they learn how little effort it takes to do the integrations required,” she added, “Thanks to the high-level APIs in 3DViewStation, only a few lines of code needed to get the system up and running.”

Known for its modern user-interface, high performance viewing, advanced analysis and integration capabilities into leading systems, 3DViewStation ships with current and mature importers for a broad range of 3D and 2D formats including i.e. Catia, NX, Creo, SolidWorks, SolidEdge, Inventor, JT, 3D-PDF, STEP, DWG, DXF, DWF, MS Office and many more.

The latest developments of 3DViewStation can be reviewed in more detail in the 3dViewStation blog.

According to Baumann, KISTERS 3DViewStation is continuously enhanced in response to customer needs and requirements. Any version of the product — Desktop, ActiveX, VR-Edition, or HTML5 WebViewer — is intended to be used together with a PLM, ERP or other management system product configuration or service and spare part applications, providing all necessary APIs. For cloud, portal and web-based solutions, an HTML5-based WebViewer solution available, which does not require client installation.

All file formats can be used in combination with the intelligent navigation and hyperlinking features to address needs of complex integration scenarios.
