MODBUS protocol & diagnostic heartbeat support operations; MQTT protocol powers research

Dedicated to optimizing clean energy generation and mitigating hail damage, KISTERS prioritized development and production of the HailSens Edge.

Powered by KIPTEC (KISTERS Intelligence Platform Technology for Embedded Connectivity) the all-in-one hail monitoring station packages advanced real-time hail measurement with data logging, edge processing, transmission, and cloud connectivity in a single device.

New Benefits

Advantages over KISTERS HailSens IoT sensor include streamlined installation in addition to improved connectivity and energy efficiency especially where ICT infrastructure is limited. To support operational excellence, the Edge performs hail event-driven adaptive logging and data store-and-forward capability in the event of connectivity outages.

MODBUS protocol enables utility-scale projects to easily integrate with remote monitoring centers and control rooms. At the same time, MQTT IoT protocol supports temporary and emergency deployments to collect field data on this particular type of severe weather to informed emergency management, researchers and forecasters.

Severe convective storms have potential to become hailstorms but escalation is not inevitable. Between hail events, heartbeat and response commands are regularly transmitted from HailSens Edge devices. Operations and maintenance teams can know instruments are online and ready to measure hailstones when they strike.

Increased Adoption

Developers and operators are deploying more hail stations to triage inspection of assets after hailstorms, expedite repairs, and attach objective information to insurance claims in the case of replacement. The proximity of KISTERS sales and support team in Texas to utility-scale projects supplies partners with a higher level of confidence in this innovation.

IT Security

Manufactured and tested in Germany, HailSens Edge stations feature leading global practices in IT security since they automatically connect to the cloud – for configuration and data sharing with approved organizations.

In May, KISTERS launched the first KIPTEC station: HyQuant Edge is an industry-first product that integrates water radar measurement, data logging, edge processing, transmission, and cloud connectivity in one compact device – revolutionizing multi-component monitoring station architecture that has defined the sector for decades.
