Cableways expand water flow measurement capabilities

November 18, 2019

New cableway solutions enable safer recording of discharge measurements

No matter how challenging your need, we can help you get your job done accurately and safely.

Whether you require a fully automated remote controlled cableway system that can measure discharge with mechanical current meters or acoustic Doppler current profilers (ADCP), a portable ADCP towing and positioning system can confidently help accomplish your task.

This lineup is transforming the way hydrographers measure water flow with flexibility and safety.

Flying Fox portable towing system

Initially a custom request, the Flying Fox is one of the most innovative flow measurement accessories on the market today. It facilitates the recording of precision discharge measurements using ADCPs while protecting hydrographers from unnecessary risks. Featuring a remote control, the Flying Fox helps take discharge measurements with ADCP-tethered boats on a temporary span of rope.

“The USGS gave us their wishlist… and we came up with the Flying Fox.” — Wayne Van Schelven, Chief Engineer, Hyquest Solutions

Cable Fox
ADCP positioning system

With a wireless remote control range of more than 1,300 ft; on-the-fly adjustable traversing speed (0.1 to 2.0 ft/sec); integrated encoder for across the stream distance measurement, the Cable Fox enables hydrographers to raise or lower up to 220 lbs. and operate on any new or existing cableway without additional equipment. It’s particularly indispensable for making measurement in challenging locations.

Hornet Plus cableway system

Developed to conduct discharge measurements from fixed cableways using an acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP) or mechanical current meter, the Hornet Plus is ideal for retrofitting an existing manned cableway system — whether currently operational or condemned, minimizing personal injury risk associated with this type of gauging.

“The tough, sophisticated, ever-capable Hornet Plus continues to impress with its ability to handle ACDPs, flood gauging with current meters and sounding weights up to 300 lbs, automatic angle of drift correction and full wireless control.” –– Peter Ward, KISTERS
